Authorities from Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland said they will strengthen cross-border cooperation to monitor and, where necessary, take action against platforms that do not comply with local gambling regulations.
Regulators highlighted several concerns, including 24/7 accessibility, lack of betting and time limits, weak age and identity checks, potential fraud, financial volatility and the risk of gambling-related harm, particularly among young adults.
The statement also calls on sports federations, leagues and clubs to verify the legal status of prediction market operators before entering into commercial partnerships.
The message is clear: prediction markets are increasingly being scrutinised in Europe, especially when they resemble gambling products but operate outside licensed and regulated frameworks.
